A kick in the crown jewels
A long and thorough piece in the Christian Science Monitor about reflexive, wrongheaded plans to thwart the judicial branch's encroachment on democracy. It's balanced and worthwhile, but helps illustrate, as a lot of people on both sides are (see Cornyn, DeLay), that nobody seems to be doing its side any good in this.
"This president has the executive branch, the Republican Party has the legislative branch, and they aren't satisfied; they want the crown jewel of our democracy, and that is a fair and independent judiciary," says Nan Aron, head of the Alliance for Justice.
If you asked Ms. Aron if she ever listens to herself, I really don't think she'd get it. The life-tenured, appointed people are the "crown jewel of ... democracy"? Really?
