Hall of Famer Cam Neely

My son isn't named after Cam Neely, but when we were searching for a good seven-letter name, we thought his was cool, so Cameron Barr came to be*. I see from Off Wing Opinion that Neely has been elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame. Even in as little regard as an old Sabres fan like me holds the Bruins, I think that's great. He was a phenomenal power forward, whose considerable scoring gifts were developed in the press box: During a lengthy injury, he watched and studied the game on the ice, noting which angles and areas offered the most opportunity to score from. Upon his return he became a 50-goal scorer -- once in just 49 games.

* It wouldn't be the last time hockey influenced the naming process here. My daughter's middle name is René, because she was born on the 14th, after her brother and sister on the 7th and 11th of the same month; any longtime Sabres fan will associate the numbers 7, 11 and 14 with the French Connection, 14 being René Robert. No, she'll never forgive me.
