Strawman KO'ed

Jacob Sullum:

I suspect there's a lot of overlap between people who support government displays of the Ten Commandments, at issue in two cases decided by the Supreme Court yesterday, and people who think the Constitution should be amended to prohibit "desecration" of the U.S. flag, as the House voted to do last week.

And it's hard to cleverly note the inconsistencies in those positions without there being "a lot of overlap," which is probably a coincidence.

I don't think Ten Commandments displays are prohibited by the U.S. Constitution and think the flag burning amendment is nonsense, but I think I can understand all that suspected overlap in terms of self aggrandizing boobs out to stick it to The Man. I "suspect" a lot of people want the Ten Commandments removed from where they're displayed more than they didn't want them there in the first place, to show that no square's the boss of them, dude. Seen that way, there is similarity to flag-burners, except insofar as there aren't hardly any flag-burners, while there are a lot of people who want to be seen and heard high-fiving the removal of the Ten Commandments from the courthouse.
