Bills fan nominated for Supreme Court

Really!

From Nexis (the Buffalo News' online archives aren't free):

John G. Roberts Jr., a widely respected judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, finds himself near the top of many lists of prospective Supreme Court nominees.

Roberts, 50, hasn't lived in the Buffalo area since the second grade, but he maintains at least one strong tie to the area: an abiding passion for the Bills.

"When the Bills were beating the Dolphins all the time, he would make sure I was aware of all of that," said Dean Colson, a Miami area lawyer who has known Roberts since they both clerked for Chief Justice William Rehnquist in 1980.

I like him already!

Roberts -- the son of a Bethlehem Steel executive has come a long way since he left St. Bernadette's Elementary School in Hamburg when his father was transferred to Indiana....

The last Western New York native appointed to the court was Robert H. Jackson of Jamestown, who served from 1941 to 1954.

I'm going to peel off my Ted Olson prediction, by the way.
