Does Google censor search results?

The Forest For the Trees has this enlightening account of an adventure searching Google's Help Center. Via Dean Esmay.

As you know, I removed Google Ads from my site over this. Dean is on a more comrehensive crusade, and posts on matters such as what to replace Google searches with (Gigablast seems promising).
