has been a legislative assistant in the office of Rep. Clay Shaw (R-

Fla.) for four years. And when work on defense issues gets so intense that her brain is fried, McDonough, 28, loves to unwind by hitting golf balls on a driving range.

Either that or jumping into a pool and swimming laps.

Every year she and her cousins train for a one-mile swimming race across Long Island Sound to raise money for cancer research.

Cancer has hit McDonough’s family, and her boss, Shaw, is also a cancer survivor.

A native of Garden City, N.Y., on Long Island, McDonough, 5 feet 7 inches tall,

comes from a big family and loves going back home in the summer, hanging out at the beach

and attending a clutch of weddings.

She is not married but is in a relationship. This light-eyed, Jodie Foster look-alike loves spontaneity, surprises and flowers. For dates, she’s not a strolling-on-the-beach type, preferring a round of golf and a round of beer at the 19th hole.
